Answer first
The cleanest way to handle partial payments today is to use two invoices. Send a deposit invoice first, then send a second invoice for the remaining balance. This keeps payments clear and avoids tricky math for you and the client.
Three practical options
Option 1: Two invoices (recommended)
Invoice 1 is the deposit. Invoice 2 is the remaining balance. Clients understand it instantly, and it is easy to track.
- 1 Create a deposit invoice for the amount you want upfront.
- 2 Email the invoice and include the payment link.
- 3 When the job is done, create a second invoice for the remaining balance and email it.
Option 2: One invoice plus an offline partial payment
If a client pays part of the invoice outside Stripe, you can record a manual payment and track the remaining balance separately. This works, but it is easier to misread later compared to two invoices.
Option 3: Quote deposit language
If you want clients to expect a deposit, add a clear line in your quote notes like “Deposit due to schedule the job” and then invoice the deposit separately.
Copy paste deposit email
Hi Name, to schedule your job, the deposit invoice is ready. You can view and pay it here: InvoiceLink. Thanks.
Replace Name and InvoiceLink with your details.
How Asteriq helps
Asteriq is built for small home service teams. Send invoices by email, give clients a clean invoice page, and let them pay online through Stripe. For partial payments, the recommended approach today is a deposit invoice plus a remaining balance invoice.

FAQ
Q Does Asteriq support partial payments?
Not yet. Today Asteriq is designed for full payments through Stripe, plus manual payment recording if needed.
Q What is the simplest workaround?
Use two invoices: one for the deposit and one for the remaining balance. It keeps accounting clean and avoids confusion.
Q Can I take a deposit by card?
You can take a card payment through Stripe Checkout, but because partial payments are not supported inside Asteriq yet, the clean approach is to invoice the deposit separately.
Q What if I only want one invoice?
You can still send one invoice and accept an offline partial payment, then track the remaining balance separately. This is workable, but two invoices is cleaner.
Q Do clients get a payment link?
Yes. Clients can pay from the invoice link using Stripe Checkout.
Q Will partial payments be added later?
Yes, it is on the roadmap. Until then, the two invoice deposit approach is the most reliable way to run partial payments.
